Base camp not bust - 5358 m

This afternoon we made it to base camp. It has been an emotional couple of days for many in the team. Yesterday was tough, trying to climb to 4,900m whilst battling the effects of altitude and gastro problems.
So far, I've been lucky, nagging headache that feels like fighting a constant migraine, but nothing much beyond that. Fingers crossed, it stays that way.

Most people, including me, were overwhelmed at reaching this final goal and lots of tears were shared. we are now in Gorek Shep, the old base camp, where Hillary and Tenzing set out from. Tomorrow morning we climb Kalla Pattar 5,500m for views of Everest before beginning the journey home.

It's been amazing, but I'm happy to be heading home soon. Missing you very much.

  1. Fantastic! Well done to you and all in the team. Hope Liz is well and you are ready for your next 'wee' hike to see Everest. Must feel like a skip and a jump ( in heavy breathing baby steps maybe?) Every difficult step, all the fund raising, fitness training and most of all packing your suitcase are enormous achievements and a testament to your amazing strength of character and determination. These are the important things in life Jo. I'm very proud of you.

  2. Well done Jo, I knew you'd do it, and I'm not surprised emotions were running high. As I recall, you blubbed a fair bit when we made it to the far end of the car park at flotterstone, no? And again when we found that ten pound note on the way back?

    seriously, great job, Jo.

  3. Well done Jo!! You're such an inspiration. Michael and I are very impressed. Thanks for writing about your experience on this blog. We have read it regularly and it was very interesting to get some insight.

Hope you have a safe journey back.
